Branding for a fictional Padeltennis-Club in Munich.
The Padel Pack Munich is a Munich club where all kinds of people can come together to play padel. Whether beginner or advanced, here you can socialize, improve your skills and learn from each other.
The name „Padel Pack“ was deliberately used instead of „Padel Club“, as the former sounds much more inviting, familiar and not elitist and private.
Padel or padel tennis is a young sport originating from Mexico that combines elements of tennis and squash. It is played two against two on a court that is slightly smaller than a tennis court and surrounded by glass walls. Padel is considered a very beginner-friendly sport, as the basic playing technique can be learned quickly. This leads to a fun playing experience right from the start. However, depending on skill level, padel can also be played in a very performance-oriented and competitive manner.
Padel is already widespread in the Spanish-speaking world. Although the sport is still relatively unknown in Germany, it is becoming increasingly popular here too and is one of the fastest growing sports.
Innovation:
Since Padel is a relatively new sport, we want to bring the fresh spirit of playing Padel to the people. Therefore it's a goal of us, to make the sport more known and popular.
Social:
The social component of the sport is a strong aspect in the Padel Pack. It's not only about the sport itself, but also about getting to know new people and to network.
Openness:
Padel is for everyone. It doesn't matter who you are, or how good you can play. Everyone is invited to join the pack.
Accessibility:
Padel is very beginner-friendly and we want to emphasize this aspect. Even though you can play at a highly competitive level at the Padel Pack, you can also start here from zero. Because in the first place it's just about fun.
Figurative mark:
The figurative mark shows an abstract padel player performing a „bandeja“. This difficult stroke technique is characteristic of the sport of padel. The figure is made up of different squares, all touching at one corner and connected by continuous lines. The check-like arrangement of the white elements on a blue background is also an allusion to the flag of Bavaria, whose capital Munich is the home of the club.
Word mark:
As a word mark, PPM was used as an acronym for „Padel Pack Munich“ to keep the appearance as compact as possible. An italic was used, which was additionally adjusted in its angle of inclination in order to harmonize better in combination with the figurative mark. The letters were also individualized. Individual elements are offset, visually repeating the figurative mark.
Variations:
The logo is also available in various variations and combinations of font and image. This makes it possible to select the most suitable logo variation depending on the intended use.
It was important to us to choose a geometric font, as our logo was already very geometrically constructed. When making our selection, we also looked out for sharp corners such as the letters „M“ or „N“. In the end, we chose „Brother 1816“, which comes in all possible weights. This font was individualized again for some letters.
We picked two different types of blue with a high contrast as the primary colours. Furhtermore there's white as a secondary colour and a gold tone for accents and more contrast. The blue tones and the white are referring to classic Padel courts, which are mostly blue with white lines. But especially in combination with the gold, the whole gamut of colours symbolizes the Bavarian Flag.
The Pattern always consists of 4 shapes with 4 corners, in pairs of 2 that have one corner touching. Furthermore there are lines on all sides of the shapes that keep extending. The 4 shapes in pairs of 2 represent the 4 players and the two teams playing against each other. The lines represent the dynamic movement of the ball constantly bouncing around the court. The Pattern can be modified and adapted for every asset, such as social media or uniforms and merchandise.
The Jersey were made using the pattern and adapting it. On the front one shape was stretched so that it creates a good space for the wordmark. On the back the same was done to create a big space for the name of the player. The same principle was applied to the shorts. Furthermore the jerseys also have the picture mark on the arm. The dominant arm also has golden sleeve cuff.
We focused on making Products which are mostly used in the context of Padel. These products include obviously the padel racket itself, a pair of socks, a headband and a water bottle. Every item is designed with the pattern and comes in a light and dark variation. Apart from these items we also developed a trophy in the style of the pack.
All marketing assets use the pattern in combination with fotos. The pattern is used to create space for text and also helps to crop the pictures. We always try to use two players in every asset to further emphasize the social aspect. The Fotos always are retouched to create a split lighting effect where one side of the players face is hit by blue light and the other one is hit by gold light.
Our name Padel Pack is an alliteration. That stylistic device carries on to our communication. We try to use alliterations that reflect our values when it's possible. E.g. „Bounce and Bond“ „Fitness and Friendship“ „Community on Court“.
Padel is a sport that will bear much fruit in 10 years.
Thanks to this project, not only we begin to make it known, but we begin to value this sport as a social/cultural movement in the area. Incorporating itself in the life of the people to improve it.
It has been very rewarding to learn about this sport in detail, play it and design it. Contributing our grain of sand to this new racket sport movement.
Padel is here to stay. In a few years, this project will gain value and will be remembered with longing and pride. In the meantime, it only remains for us to say, „¡Mucho Padel!“
